Programs Water and Sanitation
In developing countries, four-fifths of all the illnesses are caused by water-borne diseases, with diarrhoea being the leading cause of childhood death.
Clean water is a pre-requisite for reducing the spread of waterborne diseases. It is well recognized that the prevalence of water-borne diseases can be greatly reduced by providing access to clean drinking water and safe disposal of human waste.
In Ethiopia, LIA has partnered with UNICEF to bring sanitation and water stations to urban slums, to build ventilated pit latrines, and to provide showers for groups of households to share. LIA also works in all of our wholistic ministry partners to train families on basic hygiene and water purification techniques in areas where there is not access to clean water or the proper disposal of human waste.
